CLEARFIL™ PROTECT BOND develops an antibacterial effect with respect to the relevant causes of caries. The antibacterial effect of the MDPB monomer has been convincingly shown in single and comparison tests.
Examinations by the Pulp Biology Group (University of Birmingham) show a clear reduction of cultivatable bacteria from MDPB in cavity preparations in teeth with natural caries. Yet no harmful effects on the vitality of the odontoblasts and fibroblasts were determined. Three more studies were concerned with possible biological effects. There are indications that the tertiary dentin formation initiated by CLEARFIL™ PROTECT BOND is comparable to that observed following dentin treatment with calcium hydroxide preparations.
